Anime and narrative bioethics: contemporary ethical dilemmas
Abstract
This study aims to analyze anime narratives as representational devices of contemporary bioethical
dilemmas from a narrative bioethics perspective. This is a theoretical-conceptual article with a
hermeneutic-interpretive approach that articulates deliberative processes to examine the relationship
between facts, values, and duties within symbolic contexts. anime, as a transnational cultural industry,
constitutes a narrative laboratory in which tensions related to identity, corporeality, autonomy,
and technology are presented, including issues such as cloning, euthanasia, and genetic manipulation.
Through narrative imagination, these representations transcend fiction, opening possibilities for
prudential judgment applicable to real and culturally diverse contexts. It is concluded that narrative
bioethics contributes to the deliberation and resolution of dilemmas, while also supporting the
formation of moral agents and guiding action in everyday life.
