Ethics, equality and artificial intelligence
Abstract
Artificial intelligence brings profound changes to society, whether social, economic, or cultural,
with important repercussions on universally shared ethical principles such as freedom, privacy, equality,
and non-discrimination, especially in the health sector. While its development can generate economic
growth, it can also exacerbate the vulnerability of various groups, such as women, older adults,
or people with disabilities, as a result of misinformation or algorithmic biases. This article analyzes the
most relevant existing legal instruments that frame artificial intelligence as a tool for promoting equality
and general inclusion and concludes that holistic strategies must be promoted to put the opportunities
generated by it ahead of the risks.
