Discrimination and stigma in the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights

Abstract

This article addresses the concepts of non-discrimination and non-stigmatization, discussed in the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights as imperatives of bioethics, aiming to preserve the identity and integrity of individuals burdened by unequal power relations. The article briefly
presents the processes that construct the stigma and roots of prejudice and intolerance, culminating in social discrimination. The article also addresses the State’s responsibility in eliminating the causes and consequences of discrimination and stigmatization.
