Abstract

In this qualitative research it was analyzed how the religiosity and spirituality is approached in the treatment of additions in a secular institution. Data were collected from July to September 2016 at the Unidade de Internação de Adição do Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (Addition Hospital of the Hospital de Clínicas of Porto Alegre), using data from multiple sources such as: participant observation, consultation of institutional documents and interviews with patients and professionals. The results described the approach of the religiosity and/or spirituality
dimension and its significance for patients and professionals, dividing the activities between spiritual and religious approaches, which are less aligned with secularism.
